Hoosier Action Resource Center

For too long, Hoosiers have been left out of decision making in Indiana

Right now big corporations are rigging the rules against us. Our elected officials have been held captive by lobbyists and corporate power & do not feel accountable to everyday Hoosiers.

We believe that by acting together we can make certain everyday Hoosiers—across race, class, background, and geography—are at the center of the decisions that shape our lives. We love our home and we are committed to keep fighting to get the Indiana we all deserve.

Housing

We believe that all Hoosiers, from big cities to small towns, deserve a safe affordable place to call home. Hoosier Action Resource Center has held numerous “Know Your Rights” Trainings, connecting tenants with housing policy and legal experts. We’ve also organized tenants at both the state and local level and won real victories, like millions of dollars in rent relief and an extension of the eviction moratorium during the Covid-19 Pandemic, and preventing the illegal eviction of low income seniors in Zionsville.

Elections

We believe that our vote is our power and that our democracy is at its best when our elections are safe, fair and open. Since 2017, Hoosier Action Resource Center has been a reliable source of non-partisan voting information to help Hoosiers get out the vote in federal, state and local elections. We reached 1 in 6 voters in the state with our GoTV efforts in 2020, had repeated contact with a small group of voters and turned them out in record numbers in 2022, and held local town hall meetings to out candidates in the same room as their communities in 2023.

Healthcare

All Hoosiers have bodies, get sick, and will need care at some point in their lives. We believe that everyone, regardless of the color of their skin or how much money is in their wallets, deserves to get the care they need. Hoosier Action Resource Center works to keep Hoosiers covered. Since 2017, we’ve defeated Medicaid work requirements, won $100 million in funding for mental health services and helped win healthcare legislation such as the Pregnant Worker Fairness Act and the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment (MAT) Act.
